Canstruction Austin

OneCan Format

Teams compete in the traditional Canstruction, one-day build format. Teams begin preparing for the competition as soon as they have registered and start to design and gather all of the cans and other materials they'll need to build their amazing structure. All rules & competition details will be provided to the Team Captain once your team is registered.

Here's the basics:

  • Only the OneCan format qualifies to compete in International Canstruction
  • Venue is Barton Creek Square Mall
  • Structures are limited to 10-foot by 10-foot areas
  • Team size is limited to keep the competition equitable
  • Build Day is all day on a Saturday
  • The structures remain on display for 2 weeks
  • All canned food is delivered to the Central Texas Food Bank
  • Awards to best in each judging category
  •  The top award for "Most Meals" competes across both formats and goes to the team with the largest combined food and monetary donation to the Food Bank

This competition is open to the community. Teams can include: Architects, Engineers, Designers, Contractors, Students/Faculty,

Businesses, Community Organizations, Clubs, Groups & Others

Important dates:

  • Sept 12  Registration Deadline - 5pm
  • Sept 12  Can Opener (Kickoff) - 6pm
  • Nov 1  Load-in (Barton Creek Mall) 9pm 
  • Nov 2  Build Day - 8am-8pm
  • Nov 2 Judging - 8pm
  • Nov 6 The Canny Awards 5:30-7:30pm  (WeWork Downtown)
  • Nov 17  *Decanstruction 6-8pm


*Teams are responsible for taking down their own structures and removing all materials (except food products) from mall. For an additional $75 Decanstruction fee (to be donated to the CTFB) we will arrange for volunteers to do this work for you.
